Why I want to become a teacher?
The obvious reason is that I love children. When a person really gets to know me they will learn that I want to teach because I have a passion for the children who are neglected by the educational system. I am drawn to the inner city because statistically those schools are the ones in most need of a passionate teacher. I have decided to become a teacher because I want to use my compassion and intellect to change at least one child's life. I believe that all children deserve the very best education whether or not they can afford private school.

There are many children who are waiting and wanting to have you as a teacher. Your passion will enable you to reach out to children who need to have someone provide the love and support that they do not receive in thier personal world. Have you read any books by Jonathan Kozol? We have six of his books in our library. He writes about teachers and students in inner city schools. I think that I read Savage Inequalities: Children in America's School, you might want to read one of his newer titles.
I'm excited for you to become a teacer. If the way that you interact with your son is even a slight example of your prowess with youth, then the future students of America are in very capable hands.
Katie- You are amazing!! I loved reading this post! I too want to teach in the inner-city for the same reasons! You are going to be such a great teacher and your students will be so lucky to have such a passionate teacher!!
I think that you are going to make an amazing teacher. You have a heart for those students who need it most and that is noble. You will make a difference for more than just one student. Teaching is a gift for you and I know you will be very successful!
